The problems of a 2 year old

Going to start blogging all of the hysterical things that Alice says and does. They are coming so fast these days that it is almost impossible to remember them all (or remember who I told).

The other night while getting ready for bed, Alice told John that she wanted a mustache just like Daddy. He told her that only boys could have beards and mustaches. She was so disappointed that she cried herself to sleep.

Going Strong

Alice has been doing so awesome with the potty training. She has not had an accident in well over a week!!! She has gone #2 a few times at school but still refuses to do so at home - waits until she has a pull-up on at bedtime. Not sure when it will click for her to actually let us know that she has to go but for now we are "trying" every 30-60 minutes.She has even been really good about public toilets and now wants to try to use the "big potty" (the toilet without her seat topper) a lot of the time. Had I known that she would be as interested in that as she is, I would not have spent the money on the kiddie seats. She wants to remove it as soon as she is done so it tends to make a mess. She LOVES getting stickers and adding them to her reward chart. We have been giving her a bigger reward whenever she fills a row - lots of Dollar Store books and coloring books. Such a big girl!!!

The boys are doing well. Baby B is the more active one and has really been beating me up lately. We think that we have decided on which baby is going to get which name so if their personalities on the outside are anything like they are on the inside, Baby B will have the name that is easiest to yell across the house. ha ha.

We are still aiming for April 1st and the doc says he will probably schedule an induction or cesarean (depending on their position) for mid-April if I have not gone into labor by then. So hard to believe that in a few short weeks I am going to be the mother of THREE! I am getting excited but nervous at the same time. Had a talk with my boss about my workload while I am gone and he mentioned that he is very open to me working from home for a week or two before I deliver if I am not feeling well or if the doc says so. I am really dying for a little down time....a calm before the storm, if you will. We'll see...at this point I am going one day at a time.

Typically, Alice is uninterested in her brothers.  She knows there are 2 boys in Mommy's belly and she can tell us their names but other than that, she doesn't pay much attention.  Last night she was in a very silly, sweet mood and decided that she wanted to see my belly.  She kissed it and blew raspberries on it.  She even told me that she could feel the boys moving (not really but whatever).  John and I are very careful not to talk about them too much around Alice.  She doesn't really have any concept of what will really happen once they arrive so we want to keep her as content as possible until it gets closer to their arrival.

Potty training has been going well.  Alice has come home from school in the same outfit two days in a row!  She has only had a couple of successes at home and seems to be holding it in much of the day.  We are using pull ups at night and will try to keep her in undies during naptime at home.  We are still working 30 minutes at a time and I foresee it being this way for a while.  

I have started going to the OB once a week and will do so until I deliver.  As of last Friday, one was head down and one was head up - which means a definite c-section. (Will be very interested to see if they are still in the same position this Friday - they moved SO much this weekend and have started to really hurt me when they move).  Baby A was measuring 2 lbs, 11 ozs and Baby B was measuring 2 lbs, 13 ozs and are right on track with their size vs. gestation age.    They are very clearly running out of room as they grow bigger. 

My doc is still giving me the thumbs up for working and other (majorly cut back) activities and says that the next 6 weeks are the critical watch time.  John and I are hoping for 8-9 weeks which will get us to the middle of April.  Time is flying yet seems to drag.  It is going to be wild!

A poem

The other day, one of my male co-workers told me that I was as big as a boat...I laughed and told him that I had to agree but he obviously felt awful for making the comment.  This poem was waiting for me when I arrived at work this morning.  Thought it was clever and funny enough to share.

Potty Trainging Log - Day 4

Still no successes. :(  Yesterday was Alice's first day at school with no diapers.  I checked in via webcam periodically and was excited to see that she only went through 3 changes of clothes - could it really be that easy??  I was quickly brought back to reality when the teacher said that Alice was "holding it" and since she only had 2 accidents, she only peed twice the whole day.  I hope it clicks for her soon as this could be a little dangerous for her - teachers told me that other little girls who have held it for long periods of time have developed bladder infections.  great...  

Alice is really good about running to the bathroom to go but she is doing that AFTER she has an accident, not before.  The idea of letting us know when she has to go just has not clicked for her.  The potential problem is that she does not seem very upset when she is wet so maybe to her it is not a big deal.  Just not sure what to do.  I know it has only been 4 days - her teachers tell me it will click for her by the end of the week but what if it doesn't?  Should we go back to diapers for a while and try again in a few weeks/months? 

At school, she is ONLY in undies - even during her nap.  At home, we put her in pull ups at naptime and a diaper at bedtime.  Perhaps we are not helping the situation (as that is when she pees the most, and poops) but I feel as if it is cruel and unusual punishment to make a kid (or anyone for that matter) sleep in such a mess - not to mention having to change bedding 1-2-3 times a night. 

Well, it is 10am, 3 hours since I dropped her off at school...and she is in the same outfit.  Hoping that means she had a success.....

And Let the Potty Training Begin

As a father, I am still uncomfortable about my daughter growing up.  I don't think I will have a problem with the boys but Alice is still going to be a baby for me.  Colleen and I have started the potty-training this weekend with Alice wearing "undies" with Dora the Explorer on them.  (Colleen had to come with me to buy "big girl undies" because I had a hard time)  Alice was really good to run to the bathroom AFTER she went in the undies but it is a start.  We stayed in the house all weekend and Alice didn't wear any pants.  Alice stills needs to go in the potty so no stickers on the big board yet.  The daycare will take up the flag tomorrow with the potty training and 6 different outfits for "oops."  Good luck daycare teachers!
