Channeling Martha Stewart

Today is the Fall Festival at Alice's school. I made 84, yes 84, spiderweb orange and brown cupcakes. Had to post these pictures because I am really proud of how they turned out. I am actually going to some of the school festivities and will bring my camera so I will post photos of that and of Halloween soon. Have a spooky Coll-oween!

And She's Off...

It has been a very uneventful couple of weeks since Alice's first birthday. When the weather cooperates, we go for rides in her new car (a birthday present from Gramma ChaCha and Grampa Marshmallow). She really likes it but insists on riding like the Flintsones with her feet hanging out.

The 12 month Dr. visit went as well as can be expected too. She is 24 pounds and 30 inches tall. She had to get 4 shots which she was not happy about but she recovered like a champ. We decided to get her the seasonal flu shot but not the N1H1 flu shot. A lot of thought went into our decision and I would be happy to share my opinion with other parents, if interested - email me.

Alice has come down with a cold but is fighting to stay happy and cheerful. On Saturday night, I felt it coming on and by Sunday morning, I had it full blown. John let me stay in bed all day and thankfully, I feel a little more human today. But, of course, now John has the cold. Our plan is to stay low-key this week in hopes of full recovery because John is leaving once again for New Orleans on Sunday. He will only be gone a week but it seems so much longer when we are sick.

The girl has another molar coming in, so she is a drooly mess. :) This will be tooth number 8 with still no sign of incisors. The doctor said it was pretty normal for molars to come in first. John is excited because this means a lot more different types of food for her now that she can really start to chew.

Getting ready for Halloween and her school's Fall Festival. Hope to have some pictures to share next week. Alice is going to be a Syracuse Cheerleader and is going Trick or Treating with Colin the Pirate. I am happy that Halloween is on Saturday this year so we can go out early enough to not interfere with bedtime.

Have a good week!

Let her "eat" cake!!

The local grocery store offered a free "smash" cake with the purchase of a cake. I know there are a lot of pics below - they were too funny not to share. Alice was quite delicate with the cake at first....one hand at a time.

After cake, the dogs were rewarded with their fair share of cake, Alice had a bath, and we hosed off the high chair. She was so much fun to watch!

Year 1 pictures

Alice had a VERY busy weekend. On Saturday, we went to have her pictures taken for her 1st birthday. She was not the most cooperative. She simply would not sit still so a lot of the shots are action shots. On Sunday, we had Alice's birthday cake and went for a ride on her new car. We took lots of pictures and video - I will try to post this week.

Enjoy theses cute pics of our birthday girl!

"That is definitely blog material"

More fun with the video camera. We are trying to do some recording at least once a week. This video is about 3 minutes - I am trying to keep them short and sweet.

Today is the last work/school day for the long weekend (I have Monday off too). John's mom, aka ChaCha, was supposed to come tomorrow afternoon but we just this minute got a call from her saying that she has come down with what sounds like the flu. She just cancelled her plane tickets - oh, what a bummer.

Alice and I are going to our first real play date. My girlfriend, Christa, has monthly play dates for her twins and mommy friends who don't work and since Alice and I can't regularly attend the fun, I decided to take the full day off work. Vicky and Collin (Alice's neighborhood boyfriend) are coming with me too. I will be sure to take lots of pictures of all the kids. I think there will be about 10 or so - it is going to be fun. Making cupcakes and plan on having an impromptu birthday celebration for our girl.

We didn't really have any big plans for the weekend with ChaCha. On Saturday, we are going for Alice's 1 year photo shoot then out to brunch. The only other thing we have planned is birthday cake on Monday. The local grocery store offers free first b'day cake if you order a cake so that is what we did. I will definitely record and post that.

Hmmm...what else is going on.... Alice's cold is all but gone. She is still finishing up the antibiotics but will be done with them tomorrow. She has 3 molars in and a 4th starting to come in.

Think that is it. I will probably not get to post until after Alice has had her birthday. Can you believe that she is going to be ONE?!?!?! Amazing.

Flip Video testing

We got a Flip video camera for Alice's birthday. Yes, I know, it is more a toy for me but we will use it to record and document all of the happpenings in Alice's life. I am in the process of trying to figure out how to post the videos to this blog so fingers crossed that this works....if not, I'll keep trying . :)

Long time, No see

I finally remembered to bring the camera to work to download pictures. I was surprised to see that I had not done it for the entire month of September. Sorry folks! There weren't really very many good pictures because Alice was so sick for most of the month. She is so much better now. The antibiotics and ear drops are clearing up the infections and she is not coughing much at all anymore. Surprisingly, she is not very troubled by the three molars that are coming in. She is not really all that interested in eating but that is pretty much the only issue.

The fact that she is getting molars now is weird to me. She only has her two front teeth on the top and bottom and no other incisors. I wonder how long she will look like a hillbilly.

Think I talked about my mom's visit - there was only one halfway decent picture of the two of them. They did have fun together though and we hung a swing on the front porch, which Alice loves! Now we are gearing up for John's mom's visit. She will be here next Friday and will stay for Alice's first birthday. (Holy cow - I just have to repeat that - Alice's FIRST BIRTHDAY!! - wow, time flies)

Enjoy the pictures. I will try not to let so much time pass before I post more.

Alice likes the nooks and corners provided by the furniture. She is just peeking out to make sure Mommy is still there.

Taking apart the floor mats.

Only a short time until she figures out that she can take apart the entire room.

Alice and Gramma

Our new ritual - Alice having her bedtime bottle while sitting on her beanbag chair.
